Please read the details below for the WCSGA 2024 match play tournament, which will be a little different this year.  To encourage participation and make this another major event for WCSGA, the board has decided to match the tournament payouts to double the opportunity as we do for the club championship. 

 

Match Play Tournament Details:

• The tournament is scheduled to start May 9th and will be condensed to run for no more than 6 weeks.
• The tournament entry fee is $10 per member. Registration will be managed by Robert Schoppe and not use the online registration process. The entry fee will be collected by Robert before/after rounds starting in April.
• The deadline to sign up is May 2nd to allow sufficient time to create the bracket and pairings. The bracket will be posted on our 2024 season portal no later than 12:00pm on May 7th.
• Each participant must have an established handicap index in GHIN and have played in at least 3 regular tournaments in the last 9 months through the May 2nd tournament.
• Your handicap after the May 2nd tournament will be used throughout the match play tournament.  Match play scores will not be updated in GHIN and will not affect handicaps.
• The participants will be divided into 2 divisions based on handicap index ranking (lowest half in one division, highest half in one division).  The winner of each division will play the final match to determine an overall winner.
• If we have more than 32 entries, a play in round will be scheduled for May 9th and round of 32 matches will start May 16th. If there are less than 33 players, everyone will start on May 9th.     
• Those that win their first match will have 1 week to complete their next match.  You MUST make arrangements to complete the match by the following Thursday. YOU WILL FORFEIT if you can not play within the weekly timeline. Match winners must contact their next competitor to set up their next match. Watters Creek GC will offer the current senior rate on any day Monday through Thursday.  You must book tee times with the course for any rounds outside of the weekly shotgun time.
• Do not sign up for the regular weekly tournament if you are playing a match on a Thursday during the shotgun time. You are allowed to sign up and play in the regular weekly tournament if playing your match on another day. You are allowed to enter the CTP and HIO competitions when playing a match any Thursday during the shotgun.
• The payout will be determined based on the number of entries.
• The match play scorecards will be available in the clubhouse and must be turned in to tournament coordinators after the round.
• Notify John Leal and Doug Coulson of all match arrangements and results.
• Any issues that arise will be handled by the tournament committee.  Their decisions are final.
